Great Indian Bustard at in Andhra Pradesh
Rollapadu Wildlife Sanctuary situated in Kurnool is a must visit as no tour in the state is complete without it. The wildlife situated in Kurnool is home to the rare Great Indian Bustard. If you are a bird aficionado then this place is a must in the list. The sanctuary was setup in 1988 in order to protect endangered bustard that resembles ostrich with barer legs and horizontal body. The bird is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
Ever since, the place has become a tourist spot for people who are in love with this great majestic bird. One cannot miss the opportunity of witnessing the majestic bird that flocks through the grassland. You can also have the pleasure of witnessing jackals, sloth bear, jungle cats, etc. during your visit to the sanctuary.
The shrilling call of the male bird can be heard even from a distance of 500 metres that will blow your mind. Ideal time to visit the sanctuary is between the months of October and February. The sanctuary opens at 7AM and Closes at 6PM.
Features of the Bustard
The Height of the Great Indian Bustard is 3.3 feet maximum while it has a black cap on its head that is in contrast with the pale body. The weight of the bustard is 13-15 kg while it mostly eats on insects and other such small creatures.
