When she made a scintillating debut with Srinivas Avasarala’s romedy Oohalu Gusagusalade, millions of Telugu film lovers fell flat on their faces. Raashi Khanna stormed into Tollywood with her bubbly charm and promising talent. After breaking the ground with a carefully chosen script and character, there is no looking back for this beautiful young damsel.
Khanna shot to fame at 27 as a model and ac actor. Though she works prominently in Telugu film industry, Raashi is actually a typical ‘northie’ in her blood. Born in Delhi on 30th November 1990, she completed her bachelor degree in arts. She pursued her graduation from Lady Shri Ram College for Women in Delhi. After that, she jumped into the glamorous world where she became a fantastic actress, model, and singer. Not many know that her actual debut is Bollywood film Madras Cafe where she played the character Ruby Singh. Raashi underwent acting workshops before taking up the role.
Work Life and success
Raashi Khanna continues to be active in modeling as well as in the acting since 2008. Though, the actual start of career took place in 2013 with Madras Cafe and after that, Oohalu Gusagusalade happened to her in 2014. Khanna was awarded with the SIIMA award for the best debut actress in Telugu for the same.
After noticing her impressive role in Madras Cafe, Srinivas Avasarala approached her and requested to take the female lead role in his film. Khanna signed the film in October 2013 with just little hope and by seeing the limited scope. Also, the role was grey, stubborn and an arrogant kind, which she found very detached from her real life.
She then made a cameo appearance in the film Manam in 2014 and she also entertained special appearance in the movie Raja the great released in 2017.
Other than above movies, her list of filmography includes Joru, Jil, Shivam, Bengal Tiger, Supreme, Hyper, Jai Lava Kusa, Oxygen, Touch Chesi Chudu, Tholi Prema, Villain, Srinivasa Kalyanam, Imaikkaa Nodigal, and Shaitan ka Bachcha. Aside Telugu films, she played the role of Harshitha Chopra in her Malayalam film Villain released in 2017. In the year 2018, she played the role of Krithikka in a Tamil movie Imaikkaa Nodigal. Her next Tamil Movie Shaitan ka Bachcha is about to release in the last quarter of 2018. Pacing ahead in the Tamil movies, she is also filming her third Tamil Movie Adanga Maru and playing a role opposite to Jayam Ravi.
Praise from media outlets
Leading newspapers and media portals like NDTV, Times of India and The Hindu appreciated Khanna’s significant appearance in different characters and praised her abilities as an actress. Her role of Annapurna in the movie Joru was completely different from that of Prabhavati in her first film. She worked opposite many named stars in Telugu movies including Gopichand, Ravi Teja, Ram Pothineni, Mohan Lal, Jayam Ravi, Vishal, Vijay Devarakonda, Varun Tej, N. T. Rama Rao Jr, Sundeep Kishan, Priya Banerjee, Sushma Raj, and Nithiin.
Big commercial hit
Her film Bengal Tiger opposite to Ravi Teja got mixed reviews but fetched 8th highest earning Telugu movie of the year 2014. Commercially it was a big hit grossing 5.6 million globally. Another movie Srinivasa Kalyanam was directed by a national award winner director, Satish Vegensa. Some of her movies were the commercial success while others were box office hit with mixed reviews. She also faced critical and negative reviews for her portrayal in movies like Jai Lava Kusa and Shivam where she got the lead role replacing Neha Sharma’s younger sister Aisha Sharma. Her movie Joru was also a big commercial failure.
Work life as a singer
She tried her luck in singing too but sang limited songs. Till now, her list contains only 4 songs and out of them, 3 were in Telugu and one was in Malayalam. At the very start of 2014, she sang Joru from the movie Joru in Telugu. In 2017, she enjoyed her three song releases titled Villain from Villain movie, Thariraa from Balakrishnudu film, and Bangaru from Jawaan movie.
Overall, her career is bright not only as a model and an actress but also as a singer. Although her skills are yet more to be polished and decorated with the gold-plated experience, she has to fight a tough competition and reach out to industries other than Telugu.
