Country’s first cargo hub is going to be constructed at Dagadarthi in Nellore district. Cargo airport is no longer a dream for the country as the hot issue of cruising is now resolved after proactive approach coming from the Andhra Pradesh Government.
Inauguration is scheduled for the same, in the hands of CM Chandrababu Naidu for this historical achievement of the State. AP Govt has tied up with SCL-Turbo Consortium for executing the whole plan and setting up a dedicated cargo. For designing, building, financing, and operating, the managing director of Consortium, Vankayapati Umesh of NIAL (Nellore International Airport Private Limited has signed an official document with the Andhra Pradesh Airport Development Corporation (APADCL) through a public-private partnership.
The expected name of the said cargo airport is ‘Dagadarthi Airport.’ The chosen location will have excellent connectivity, being situated on the Vizag-Chennai National Highway. Distance from the Krishnapatnam Port is only 30 Kms away from the place of the proposed cargo airport. Due to an advantageous geographical location and closeness to both the cities, decent traffic will be diverted to Dagadarthi. Once the proposed airport starts functioning, traffic pressure on Chennai and Tirupati airports will reduce significantly. Airports of Chennai and Tirupati have high rushes and bear the brunt of heavy traffic pressure, and it is expected that the launch of new cargo airport will help the rush tone down dramatically.
More tourism, industrial growth
The State’s Chief Secretary and one of the top bureaucrats in the state, Ajay Jain spoke about the new airport and said that Nellore District will attract more tourism and industrial growth because of the same. The newly inaugurated cargo hub will be a hot zone for cargo import and export for various industrial units in not only district but also across the State.
