Pooja Hedge, a name that has already been inked in the South film industry has finally found its salvation in Bollywood as well. The actress made her debut in the B-town with Hrithik Roshan-starrer Mohenjodaro which turned out to be a huge disappointment. Though made on mammoth budget with intense costume design going into its making, the film failed to deliver a hit at the box office. However, three years later Pooja Hedge resurrected herself with Akshay Kumar starrer super hit franchise Housefull 4.
Going back to where she started
Pooja Hegde entered the glamour industry with Miss India 2009 competition. She won the Miss India Talented 2009 honour followed by a second runner-up title in Miss Universe India 2010 pageant. Pooja entered the Tamil film industry with Mugamoodi in 2012 opposite Jiva. She found her break in the industy after Mysskin found her pictures from her pageant days. She learnt Tamil for her big superhero film. Talking to the dailies, she told that learning Tamil wasn’t a big task for her as it resembled very much to her mother tongue Tulu.
Pooja Hegde’s Tamil debut made a grand opening at the box office only to tank later. Her performance also received lukewarm reactions from the film buffs. Later she lost the Best Tamil Female Debut Actress Award to Lakshmi Menon.
But that wasn’t it for Pooja Hegde. Her next outing was with Naga Chaitanya titled Oka Laila Kosam. Only this time, she was praised for her performance in the film. It was just a beginning for the dusky beauty. Each film brought her closer to success.
Tryst with Bollywood
After tasting success down the South, Pooja Hedge’s luck didn’t work in Bollywood. Despite bagging a role opposite Hrithik Roshan in Mohenjodaro, the project didn’t work out in her favour. To make a mark in Bollywood, she refrained from signing any regional films due to which she lost an opportunity to work with renowned director Mani Ratnam. When Mohenjodaro released, it was panned by critics.
Resurrection with Housefull 4
Tasting her first failure in the B-town, Pooja Hedge went back to doing films in Tamil and Telugu industries. Three years later, she returned to Bollywood with Sajid Nadiadwala’s reincarnation comedy Housefull 4. Though it had an ensemble cast, Pooja Hegde managed to get a super hit registered to her name with it. Housefull 4, despite much controversies registered gargantuan digits at the box office. It has minted around Rs 140 crore at the box office within one week of release.
So far, Pooja Hedge has no Bollywood project in her kitty. However with the success of Housefull 4 we’re expecting to see her in more Bollywood entertainers in the coming years. As far as her future plans are concerned, she will be next seen in AlaVaikuntapuramlo alongside Allu Arjun and Tabu. She is also been roped in a Telugu project Jaan for which not much details have been revealed.
